Is your company ready to drive change in your industry?

Los Angeles' tech sector is leading the way in inclusivity. Recognizing the untapped potential within low-income communities, LA-Tech.org and the city's tech leaders launched a groundbreaking initiative - the 1,000 Interns Initiative.

This ambitious program, exceeding its initial goal, has placed over 1,000 young people from diverse backgrounds in paid tech internships since its start in 2021. It's specifically designed to create pathways for communities of color and other historically underrepresented groups who haven't had equal access to opportunities in the tech field.

Beyond traditional qualifications, these interns bring a wealth of transferable skills from their varied experiences. This program unlocks their potential and empowers them to build successful careers in the tech industry.

Why is it important?

Firstly, it’s the right thing to do. We want to give back to the community and the city that has allowed tech companies to grow and be successful. Tech companies have a responsibility to ensure careers in the industry are truly accessible.

There is now an opportunity for tech to hire untapped talent ensuring more local employees, a diverse pipeline and creates opportunities for young people who have been disconnected from the sector. Also, by investing in local talent, we ensure the diverse and vibrant future of the growing tech sector.

Lastly, we want to give the many people in our local tech community who are looking for ways they can personally make an impact on our city a way to do so.
